Following Borneo Economic Community (BEC) establishment in 2023, the Borneo Economic Community convened the Borneo Economic Forum 2024 in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, under the theme: “Regional Connectivity: A Pathway to Inclusive Growth.”
The forum was co-led by Mr. Arsjad Rasjid and Ms. Haslina Taib, Co-Chairs of BEC, alongside Mr. Bernardino Vega of ASEAN-BAC Indonesia and Ms. Shinta Laksmi Dewi, Chairwoman of KADIN South Kalimantan.
Aligned with ASEAN’s 2024 Chairmanship theme, “Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,” the Forum featured two main discussions: namely Trade and Investment, and Infrastructure and Connectivity, featuring national perspectives from ASEAN member states. The sessions also included interactive business dialogues among stakeholders from ASEAN countries, the broader Borneo region, and related provinces.
Attended by business representatives from across Kalimantan and the wider Borneo region, the Forum underscored the spirit of unity and inclusivity within BEC. It highlighted Borneo’s immense potential in trade, investment, infrastructure, and connectivity, and emphasized the need for continued collaborative initiatives across the island.
In collaboration with ASEAN-BAC, BEC, and the regional chapters of KADIN across Kalimantan, the 2024 Borneo Economic Forum sought to enhance stakeholder participation throughout Borneo, involving representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The Forum reaffirmed that subregional cooperation—such as within Borneo—can play a pivotal role in advancing Southeast Asia’s economic integration.

Borneo is celebrated for its thriving trade and investment prospects, firmly underpinned by its robust logistics networks. As we peer into the future, it becomes imperative to investigate the pivotal role that Borneo can assume in strengthening and broadening these critical connections. Logistic networks are the backbone of modern supply chains, which can leverage digital technologies to optimize efficiency.
This can be achieved by democratizing data and digital platforms development, especially via low code, predicted as the foundation of 75% of applications developed globally by 2027. This exciting turn of events promises a more inclusive participation of Borneo talents and businesses to thrive in the age of digital economy.
This session will delve into the ongoing and possible infrastructure opportunities that are reshaping the bridges of connectivity among Borneo countries. Through advanced digitalization, businesses can achieve unprecedented levels of efficiency and connectivity across borders.
