BEC Shares Insights on Borneo’s Investment Opportunities at Brunei Business Conference 2026
26 October 2026

Thomas Noto Suoneto, Vice President of International Affairs at the Indonesian Business Council and a representative of the Borneo Economic Community (BEC), participated in the Brunei Business Conference 2026, held on 26 October 2026 at the Rizqun International Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
Speaking at the panel discussion “Invest Borneo: From Collaboration to Investment Partnerships,” Noto shared insights on the role of the business community in strengthening economic cooperation across Borneo and translating regional dialogue into concrete trade and investment opportunities.
The discussion highlighted Borneo’s significant economic potential and the importance of connecting the complementary strengths of Brunei Darussalam, Kalimantan, Sabah, and Sarawak. Key areas of opportunity include energy, industry, the digital economy, infrastructure, and cross-border connectivity. Panellists also explored practical barriers to regional trade and investment, including customs procedures, the movement of goods and people, standards, and payment systems.
The session underscored the need to move beyond dialogue towards commercially viable partnerships, supported by stronger coordination, joint investment promotion, and improved regional connectivity. These priorities align with BEC’s efforts to foster cross-border collaboration and build a more integrated and competitive Borneo economy.
The discussion also followed the Borneo Economic Forum 2026, held in Kuching, Sarawak, on 7 October 2026, which brought together regional stakeholders to advance economic cooperation across the island. With Nusantara announced as the host of the 3rd Borneo Economic Forum in 2027, BEC will continue working with its partners to turn shared priorities into practical initiatives and investment opportunities across Borneo.
